Penang Traffic

Posted by vampire at 09:33 AM on January 6, 2004.

I thought the traffic jams were bad enough, but I was wrong. Yesterday school reopened, and it got much worse. Now, I’ve got to go back home later from work, if I wanna avoid the jams.

In Penang, motorcycles change lanes without signalling, as if drivers can read their minds, and they are willing to die on the road.

Cars cut long queues everywhere all the time. A Penangite told me it's so normal...

Motorbikers ride in the middle of the road, as if they're a car.

So far, I've knocked one motorbike, because he suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, as he was trying to turn into a one-way road in the opposite direction.

And within the first week of getting my car, a deep scratch was made on my car, I assume it was from a motorbike.

While at a traffic light on the road, a motorbike on the left of me suddenly knock my side mirror, and just sped off...

Driving on the middle lane of the road, a motorbike on the left lane suddenly just switch to the middle lane without looking right, and knocked my car....

I expect more in the coming days/months/years...

Newspaper Article

Posted by vampire at 09:50 AM on January 30, 2004.

This morning, I wanted to tapau breakfast to office, but most stalls in the market were closed for the Hokkien New Year. So I ate there instead. Then I read The Star newspaper. This is what made me happy:

Finally, newspaper reports some news, and the people got ticked off for not producing a proper policy. Dumb people.

MAS Enrich Programme

Posted by vampire at 10:37 AM on January 30, 2004.

I just heard about this Enrich programme from Wena when I was back in Kuching. You get to earn Enrich points for each kilometer you travel. So, roughly, if you plan to holiday overseas, by joining this programme, you can redeem a local holiday free.
