China Trip Part 1
Posted by vampire at 05:04 PM on April 22, 2006.
Currently, I'm in China. I'm here for a business trip, for a duration of 8 days.First whole day spent on travelling.
Day 1
6:15AM: Woke up
6:30AM: Left house for airport
6:45AM: Long queue for check-in, then headed to Coffee Bean for breakfast
7:45AM:
We (me & my colleague) were slightly late to board the plane. It's my first time flying Cathay Pacific Airlines. Had spent the whole flight reading the in-flight magazine. No in-flight movies available for this short flight.
8:35AM:
Arrived in KLIA for transit... Had to stay in the plane for about an hour before it starts flying to Hong Kong International Airport.
9:45AM:
The plane takes off for Hong Kong. Roughly took 3 hours 40 minutes. Watched the in-flight movie: A Very Tall Chinese Story, or sth of that sort of title. It's about the Journey to the West monk, who had to fight with the aliens with spaceships, and escaped to a lizard kingdom, where he fell in love, etc... Typical Cantonese movie.
1:20PM: Reached HKIA
2:10PM:
Bought our bus tickets to Dongguan, and then had lunch. The return ticket costs HK$370 (HK$2 is roughly Rm1). Lunch was taken at Cafe de Coral, a fast food place in the airport. I ordered the curry, and when I took it into my mouth, then I realized it was lamb curry. It's rare to find fast food chains selling lamb dishes in Malaysia.

2:30PM: Departed for Dongguan
4:10PM: Reached China customs point at Huanggang
6:00PM: Reached my hotel in Qiaotou, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China.
So, that's my work day. So, is travelling considered work?
For a guy who doesn't know how to converse and read Mandarin well, it's tough here to understand the signboards and food menu. Even if the menu has English words on it, chances are the meaning is lost in translation. I've seen a guardhouse or security room for a factory being translated to "Protect The Room".

Here's a picture of the equivalence of roti canai in China... Made by Chinese.
