Lost It All

Posted by vampire at 12:53 PM on March 14, 2007.

I've lost trust with the society here.

Generally, most people here are rude, and not service-oriented at all.

To Summarize:

1) I wanted to move in a new house, but the landlady won't want to clean the place for me before my contract date. I needed the place quite urgently. For an educated person, a lecturer, she cannot calculate out that hiring a person to clean the place and receiving half month's rental is more worth it, than cleaning it herself and losing out on half month's rental.

2) The property agent who saw the agreement crumble wouldn't return my Rm200 deposit. Furthermore, he insulted me. He hangs up the phone on me.

3) Banks here are not service-oriented enough. Some online banking system sucks, some officers are rude, and they charge you whenever they can, for almost every single thing in any opportunity possible.

4) Travel agent who did not complete my booking, and have delayed returning my deposit for a very long time.

5) Government workers or government-linked-company service workers (those at the counters) are usually very rude. Queues are super long for almost anything. They will rush u to pay $, they will delay paying u $.

6) Insurance agent who will be very kind to u when he wants u to sign. After you sign, he won't pick up your calls. He won't return your call or e-mail.

7) Government system that favours all these. Bringing anything small in monetary value up to the tribunal will only result in them paying you back your money/deposit/etc. Then they walk away without charges, fines, etc.

8) Car workshops here often overcharge and swindle you.

9) Postal service here sux. Mails so often get lost, especially parcels. You don't get informed about it.

10) Hate it here. Contemplating to move to a more cultured nation with better system to protect consumers, and workers.

Buying from eBay USA

Posted by vampire at 11:24 AM on March 21, 2007.

I've recently purchased something from eBay USA.
I'm in Malaysia. Here's how it is done.

1) Create an account with eBay. I did this in www.ebay.com.my.

2) Search for an item to bid. I bought a 2003 limited edition board game which can't be found in Malaysia anymore: Risk - Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition.

3) Win the bid. This took me quite long to get for a price I wanted. Winning bid: US$30.50.

4) Now, u gotta have a shipment address. Certain sellers only ship to "Confirmed PayPal addresses". This is the billing address that is linked to your credit card. I have a friend working in Intel Malaysia who's currently on 'relocation' in USA. So I had the seller mail my package to him. He will bring it back to M'sia for me. (Thanks, GTS)

The shipping cost is around US$10 from USA to USA. Shipping cost from USA to M'sia may cost a lot... around US$30. Not worth it, unless the item is really worth it.

5) Then, the most important part. You gotta pay the seller. For this, you'd need a PayPal account and a credit card. Or, you do wat I did. A Penang fren of mine has a PayPal account with US$ inside. She earned it from blogging. So, she paid for my bid (US$40.50) thru her PayPal account, and I passed her cash in RM. Remember to check your payment status in eBay and/or PayPal.

6) The seller confirms the receipt, and sends the package. Do try to get a package ID from him. He sent a package code for me.

7) I can track the status of the delivery via US Postal Service site. Now, I know it is already delivered to destination.

I hope I can get my game in May. :p
